Oktibbeha Co Sheriff loves propane-fueled cars

By The Associated Press

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Oktibbeha County Sheriff Dolph Bryan says he wanted a test drive before he decided whether to modify some patrol cars to use propane — but it was love at his first touch on the gas pedal.

He tells the Starkville Daily News that the propane adds real punch, and he asked how many he could get.

Fourteen of the department’s 26 vehicles were modified to run on a dual gasoline and propane fuel reserve system. Bryan says a Mississippi Department of Transportation grant covered the cost — $6,000 per vehicle.

Bryan says the dual fuel system also gives each car a range of nearly 600 miles on a full tank, nearly doubling its coverage area.
