Ole Miss, MSU games to air live in Fairpark

TUPELO – Ole Miss and Mississippi State fans will be treated next month to a free tailgating party in Fairpark, complete with the showing of two games live on a jumbotron taller than City Hall.
Officials with Renasant Bank and Cellular South announced Thursday that they will sponsor Pigskins in the Park, which will serve as a fundraiser for the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association.
For the Oct. 16 event, Comcast will provide a live broadcast of the Ole Miss-Alabama game and the MSU-Florida game in high resolution on a 22-foot by 33-foot screen.
The screen will be raised 16 feet off the ground, making the whole setup almost double the height of City Hall. Times for the games have not been set.
John Oxford, director of external affairs for Renasant Bank, said the groups have partnered with several downtown restaurants to provide booths that will sell food at the event. Mitchell Distributing will have a beer tent.
Tailgaters are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, tents and school paraphernalia to tailgate in the park at Fairpark. Personal grills and coolers are discouraged and alcohol that isn’t bought at the event won’t be allowed.
The event comes a day after Cellular South will bring its Y’all vs. Us series to Tupelo for the Tupelo High School football game against South Panola. Fox Sports South will broadcast it live.
