OXFORD — The University of Mississippi will host a tribute to the late William Raspberry on Aug. 29.
The tribute will be held at 8 a.m. in the auditorium of the Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics.
Milton Coleman, a senior editor at The Washington Post, will participate in a panel discussion of Raspberry’s career.
Raspberry, who grew up in Okolona died in July. He was 76.
He joined The Washington Post in 1962 and wrote an opinion column for nearly 40 years. More than 200 newspapers carried his column in syndication before he retired in 2005.
He won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1994. He taught journalism for more than 10 years at Duke University. A collection of his columns, “Looking Back at Us,” was published in 1991.
