OXFORD – Will Norton Jr., a former University of Mississippi journalism chairman, will return to campus as its first dean of the new Meek School of Journalism and New Media.
Norton confirmed the news Wednesday while traveling with his wife, Susan.
“We’re coming back to a university that has gained immeasurably in recent years,” Norton said by telephone.
Norton left Ole Miss in 1990 to be dean of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Ole Miss hasn’t announced his hire officially because Norton has not yet received a letter of offer.
Tuesday, he e-mailed faculty and staff about his decision.
He said Wednesday he hopes to be on the Oxford campus by July 1.
