Ole Miss taps five for Hall of Fame

OXFORD – Former U.S. Sen. Trent Lott and current Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, who also served as governor, are among the University of Mississipp graduates who will be inducted into the school’s Alumni Hall of Fame next month.
Other inductees are John H. Geary of Jackson, who retired as managing director of Morgan Keegan; basketball star Jennifer Gillom of Phoenix; and chemical engineering executive Debra L. Starnes of Spicewood, Texas.
The induction will come during homecoming weekend Nov. 5-6, with two other alumni to be recognized.
William L. Freeman Jr. of Flowood, adjutant general of the National Guard, will receive the Alumni Service Award for service to the university and the Alumni Association.
Maj. Sheldon Morris of Killeen, Texas, an assistant operation officer for the 1st Cavalry Division’s 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, will get the Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
The honorees will be recognized at a reception at 6 p.m. on Nov. 5. Tickets are $50 person or $450 for a table of 10 and are available by calling (662) 915-7375. Advance registration by Thursday is required.
