Leona Britt
PONTOTOC – Leona Britt, 76, died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the Sunshine Health Care in Pontotoc. She was born August 30, 1935, in Pontotoc to Luther and Mildred Britt. She attended Toccopola Baptist Church. She was a very loving aunt and friend. She really loved collecting dolls, loved to sew and blessed everyone as she sang hymns.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Sunday, August 26, 2012, at 2:00 pm in the Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home Chapel of Pontotoc with Bro. Lee Graham and Bro. Earl McAnally officiating. Graveside service will follow at the Toccopola Cemetery.
She leaves behind three nephews, Joey Britt, Mike Britt and Eugene Britt (Glenda); one brother, Sonny Britt(Wilma Jean); a special friend, Rita Spears; two special aunts, Ruthie Peerey and Ruby Williams; two great-nephews, Eric Britt and Ryan Britt; two great-nieces, Cassidy Britt and Alex Britt all of Pontotoc.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Mildred Britt; and one brother, Delaine Britt.
Pallbearers to serve will be Eric Britt, Danny Collums, Lee Chrestman, Joey Britt, Mason Tutor, and Terry Williams.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 25th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Sunday, August 26th from 1:00 pm until service at 2:00 pm.
The family would like to say a special thanks to The Pontotoc Extended Care, Sunshine Health Care of Pontotoc and The Sanctuary Hospice of Tupelo for all the special love and care shown to their Aunt Leona in her time of need.

OKOLONA – Nicole Lynett Moore Hersey, 43, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born Aug. 16, 1969, to Florence Moore and Henry Ford, she was a member of Clarks Chapel. A 1987 graduate of Okolona High School, she was an assistant teacher in Okolona, Lee County and Aberdeen school districts. She was also an employee for Montgomery Interprize.
She was a loving and caring person and really loved her “well loved” grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today with wake for family and friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Clarks Chapel with the Rev. J.D. King officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Williams Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, John Hersey of Okolona; her mother, Florence Moore of Okolona; her father, Henry Ford of Tupelo; two daughters, LaPasha Hersey and Ra Sheda Hersey, both of Okolona; a son, Zorrien Hersey of Okolona; her in-laws, John and Ella Hersey of Shannon; three sisters, La-Chitta Moore of Okolona, Crystal Moore of Memphis, and Bridgett Weatherspoon of Tupelo; three brothers, Jemaine Moore (Natlie) of Olive Branch, Rickey Ford and Martez Ford (Cynthia) of Okolona; and two grandchildren, Gavhyn and Maddisyn.

David Moore
HERNANDO – David Moore, 58, died Aug. 22, 2012. He was a loving father and grandfather to his family.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at David’s house, 4560 Belmont Road, Hernando. Hernando Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his daughters, LeShonda Kisner (Jason), Kayla Moore, both of Hernando, and Mary Hays (Ronnie) of Coldwater; sons, Hunter Moore of Coldwater and Landon Moore of Sevierville, Tenn.; sister, Betty Ruth Moore of Tupelo; brothers, Tommy Moore of Shannon; and grandchildren, Rhemi, Kamren, Lawson, Chloe and Aubrey.
He is also survived by the loves of his life, Pam Ivy, Beth Moore, and
Kristy Moore.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Earl Moore.

Lonzo Hill
RIPLEY – Lonzo “Tall Man” Hill, 65, died Aug. 23, 2012, at his home. He was born April 11, 1947, in Eulandon, Ga., to Eunice and Luther Hill. He joined Adkin Chapel of Antioch at an early age, and he later became a member of Praise and Worship Church of Ripley. He was an Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He loved to paint, crochet, and build shelves and cabinets.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Foster amp& Son Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Adkins Chapel in Blue Mountain.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Hill of Ripley; two step-sons, Paris High and Perry High of Kileen, Texas; four step-grandchildren of Blue Mountain; his mother, Eunice Hill of Blue Mountain; four sisters; three brothers; his mother-in-law, Mable Rogers of Ripley; seven sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Tony and Tina Spight, Eugene and Linda Girley, Roy Turner, Zack Rogers, and Tommy Boyd.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Hill.
Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state two hours prior to service on Monday at the church.

‘Bill’ Nelson
BECKER – Willie M. “Bill” Nelson, 65, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville. Born Oct. 24, 1946, in Becker, she was a daughter of Carlos and Lucille Jenkins Odom.
She attended Becker Schools. She married Joe Carl Nelson in 1975. A homemaker, she loved family gatherings, cookouts and all the fun-loving good humor at all the gatherings. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed fishing, flower arranging, her dogs, collecting all kinds of trinkets, listening to gospel music, and watching Gospel Channel 39.
She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Gann (Ned) of Becker; sons, Tim Nelson (Heidi) of Amory, and Jeff Nelson (Marsha) of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters, Etoy Chism of Wren, Jean Waits of Wren, Lortez Tate of Bigbee, and Syble Caldwell of Valdosta, Ga.; grandchildren, Amanda Knight, Cory Box (Leanne), Devin Nelson, Savannah Nelson, and Luke Nelson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Carl Nelson; son, Rodney Wayne Knight; sister, Virginia Pace; and brother, L.C. Odom.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Johnny “Bo” Knight, Randy Smith, Ron White, Larry Reeves Jr., William “Buzz” Francis and David Chism.
Honorary pallbearer will be Robert “Bob” Knight.

TUPELO – Mildred Lovorn Long, 86, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at her home in Tupelo. She was born June 17, 1926, to Henry Tom and Abby Fulcher Lovorn. She attended Mississippi State University, where she became a teacher and taught for 33 years in public schools. She loved to read, sew, work in her garden, and take care of her grandchildren. She delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Clothes Closet for the church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tupelo, where she was also a member of the Mary Richie Circle and Belle Bennet Sunday school class.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today after visitation at the Jefferson Street Chapel with the Rev. Jim Curtis and the Rev. Lynn Mote officiating. Burial will be at Middleton United Methodist Church. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Long Trott (O’Neal) of Gautier; two sisters, Mary Ruth Moody of Philadelphia, Kathy Humphries of Louisville; one son, Stan L. Long of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Jana Hoobler (Ben) of Gautier, Justin Trott (Tracey) of Ocean Springs, Elise McMasters (Trey) of Shannon, and Elizabeth Vaughan (John) of Shannon; and six great-grandchildren.

Curtis Fleming
BOONEVILLE – Curtis Leroy Fleming, 71, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born March 3, 1941, in Booneville. He was an owner-operator in the trucking industry and a Methodist. He was a United States Army Veteran, and he enjoyed riding motorcycles.
Services, with military honors, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kerry Powell officiating. Burial will be in Corinth National Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Conley Fleming, whom he married on May 16, 1970; a son, Carl Fleming of Iuka; a daughter, Sharon Fleming of Booneville; two brothers, Kenneth Fleming of Jumpertown and Jimmy Fleming (Kathy) of Booneville; three sisters, Nona Wimberley (Bill) of Pisgah, Diane Martin (Jackie) of Booneville, and Christen McCoy of Rienzi; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Frank Cordes and Michael Fleming; his parents, Hubert “Hoot” Fleming and Velma Wardlow Fleming; and a sister, Lorene Burns.

HOUSTON – Charles Lee French, 89, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Care Center of Aberdeen. He was born June 5, 1923, in Trenton, Tenn. to Henry and Hilder French. He was a World War II Veteran, a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, and retired farmer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Houston with the Rev. Dwight Brown and Bro. Billy Patterson officiating. Burial will be in College Hill Cemetery in Calhoun County. Southern Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth French of Calhoun City; one son, Burt French and Lisa of Grenada; one step-daughter, Donna York and Britt of Calhoun City; two step-sons, George Williams Jr. and Teresa of Vardaman, and Randy Williams of Derma; one sister, Marie Greenway of Swiftwater; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Bashir Kabban
TUPELO – Bashir S. Kabban, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks. A Jaffa, Palestine, native, he was born Sept. 20, 1926, to Salim George and Sophia Kabban. He was a loving husband and father. He was also a retired chief master sergeant in the United States Air Force for 24 years and nine months.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Mr. Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Belden Cemetery with full military honors. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

SHERMAN – Leroy Campbell, 100, died Aug. 23, 2012, at his home. He was a retired lifelong farmer. He was a member of Sherman Church of Christ. He was the first person to hold the title World Champion Koon Hunter in 1948. He enjoyed hunting and gardening. He was known for his tomatoes. He was a musician and taught a number of people music.

Survivors include two daughters, Geneva Adair (Stanford) of Macedonia Community and Janie Kelly of Tupelo; three sons, Carl “Joker” Campbell of Chesterville, Bobby Campbell (Marie) of Macedonia and Jimmy Campbell of Blue Springs; grandchildren, Kim Smith (Terry), Rickey Campbell (Tessie), Gary Campbell (Teresa), Greg Hughes (Cindy), Roy Campbell (Miranda), Patti Browning (Marty), Dorie Crouch (Ronald), Jeania Adair, Melanie Sellars (Kirk) and James Ashley Campbell; 27 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lossie Campbell; parents, Albert and Eva Campbell; grandchildren, Melissa Kelly, Billy Adair and Jennifer Campbell; sisters Myrtle Hutcheson, Ruby House, Flossie Dye and Gladys McDonald; and brother, Johnny Campbell.
