TUPELO – One man is dead and another is in jail after a New Year’s morning shooting at a local night club.
At about 1:39 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of multiple gunshots at Club I-Con at 2207 McCullough Boulevard.
When they arrived on the scene officers found a victim lying on the ground at the entrance of the business with an apparent gunshot wound. Bradley Triplett, 20, of Tupelo was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green said she expects the autopsy to be done early this week.
According to Capt. Chuck Bunn, a person of interest is in custody at this time, but no formal charges have been filed.
If murder charges are filed, it would be the third in two years, after going more than three years without one in the city.
In April police charged Maurice D. Harris, 42, with the shooting deaths of Jerry White, 35, and O’neal Collier, 39. The two men’s bodies were found in a parked car on Linden Hill Street. Harris remains in the Lee County Jail on a $2 million bond.
A bond hearing is expected to be held Monday for the suspect in Saturday’s shooting.
