FULTON – A suspect in a Tippah County home invasion was found dead in the Evergreen Community on Wednesday.
According to Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson, the body of Stephen Bullwinkle, 33, of Union County was found in the middle of New Chapel Road about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Bullwinkle was a suspect in a home invasion that occurred in Tippah County earlier in the morning.
Dickinson said it appears Bullwinkle died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. Officials found his car nearby, which was how they initially identified the body.
The body is currently in the possession of the Itawamba County coroner’s office where it will be sent off for autopsy.
Dickinson said it’s alleged Bullwinkle staged an early-morning break-in at the home of his former wife, where he held both her and another individual hostage before fleeing with her credit card.
He then allegedly used the card to make purchases in both Tupelo and Blue Mountain.
According to the sheriff, a crime scene unit and officials with the Tippah County Sheriff’s Department were on scene Wednesday investigating to determine the specifics surrounding Bullwinkle’s death.
