GREENWOOD SPRINGS – An Alabama man was killed early Wednesday when his vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree on U.S. 278.
Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley identified the victim as Dustin Wade Egger, 21 of Vernon, Ala.
Gurley said Egger was driving east on Hwy. 278 in Greenwood Springs when he ran off the road in his 2004 Toyota Four Runner and struck a tree. It took firemen more than three hours to free him from the wreckage.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.
The wreck was discovered by a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy during regular patrol.
