Free fishing weekend Saturday, Sunday

Each year the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks designates the first weekend in June as “Free Fishing Weekend” statewide.

On June 1 and June 2, anyone may sport fish without a fishing license or a state lake fishing or boating permit.

Grabbling tournament set for next Saturday

Big catfish enthusiasts will reach for prizes and glory June 8 in the Second Annual North Mississippi Grabbling Tournament. Registration may be done in person by 6 a.m. June 8 at the tournament’s weigh-in location at Engineer Point on Sardis Lake.

Entry fees are $50 per two-person team plus an optional $10 big fish pot.

The weigh-in deadline will be 6 p.m., but they’ll start weighing in fish at 2 p.m. in an event open to the public. The Pork Fiction Championship BBQ Team will have food for sale. To learn more, contact Brion Whitten at 662-809-5676 or go online to msgrabbling.com.

Friends of NRA event set June 11 in Tupelo

Support for the future of the shooting sports will be the goal of the Friends of NRA banquet to be held at The Summit Center at 825 N. Gloster St., Tupelo, beginning at 5:30 on the night of June 11.

Tickets to the event are $35 each and are available at BBQ By Jim at 203 Commerce St., Tupelo. They may also be purchased online at friendsofnra.org. For more information, call 678-6925.
