NEW ALBANY – Mourners packed the expansive sanctuary, classrooms and the gymnasium to bid farewell on Thursday to Amanda Price, who was shot to death Monday night outside her home. Her husband, New Albany High School football coach Ron Price, also was wounded in the attack but is recovering. Police are still searching for her killer.
Both family and clergy implored audience members to share Amanda Price’s devotion to her Christian faith and to the service of others.
Hillcrest’s pastor, the Rev. Whit Lewis, told the New Albany football team, who served as honorary pallbearers and attended in their maroon jerseys, “The way she counted victories was by the number of football players who gave their hearts to Jesus, and not games won.”
The Rev. Kermit McGregor, who until recently served as Hillcrest’s interim pastor, said, “Amanda, God certainly had a plan, a place and a purpose for your life.”
A private burial service was to be held later Thursday in Corinth.
