OXFORD – The special election for Ward 6 alderman hangs on Wednesday morning’s count of affidavit ballots. The seat became vacant when Brad Mayor resigned after being elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives.
Unofficial but complete results in the three-person race yielded 286 votes for Jason Bailey, 11 votes for Liz Barrett and 297 for Katie Morrison. In addition to the six affidavit ballots, there was one write-in ballot.
Morrison can guarantee her victory by receiving four of the contested votes. If neither she nor Bailey gets at least 50 percent plus one vote, a runoff will be held on Feb. 28.
