Oxford bike lanes nearing completion

By NEMS Daily Journal

OXFORD – The most recent additions to Oxford’s network of bike lanes and bike paths are nearly complete.
Started a year ago, bike lanes and shared-lane signage along North and South Lamar Boulevard, Williams Street, Douglas Street, College Hill Road and Highway 314 are constructed, paved and largely painted. City Engineer Bart Robinson said what remains to be done is tidying, spot repairs and some final striping and marking.
The University of Mississippi is also working on its biking and walking trails. The Whirlpool Trails that largely follow the old railroad bed south of Highway 6 are closed this week and possibly into next week for maintenance. The university will notify users at www.olemiss.edu, by mass media and by on-site signage when the trails reopen.
