Oxford board approves controversial apartments

OXFORD – The Board of Aldermen on Tuesday overruled the Planning Commission’s split decision against a 650-bed apartment complex off Old Taylor Road.
Concerns about extra traffic on what was just a sleepy county road a few years ago apparently prompted the Planning Commission’s 4-3 disapproval of The Domain, as with the nay votes of Aldermen Janice Antonow and Ney Williams. Antonow said she would support the project if it were to open in August 2015, when several nearby road projects would be complete, instead of its August 2014 target date. One of the developers said another year’s interest without income would make the project untenable.
