Oxford contracts for water-detention work

By NEMS Daily Journal

OXFORD – Aldermen approved a $129,325 contract with Bennett Construction to build a water detention structure in Avent Park that is expected to be complete in early to mid-spring of 2013. The structure will replace the current 48-inch pipe with a 60-inch pipe and will allow excess flow during heavy downpours to back up behind a berm, to be released over a period of hours.
Contested by some nearby homeowners and welcomed by others, the structure is designed to lessen flash-flooding from Burney Branch along Sisk Avenue, Bramlett Boulevard and points south, including the south Oxford neighborhood of Notting Hill.
