OXFORD – The Oxford Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday night to contract with Standard Parking for three years to manage downtown parking using license recognition software.
While new parking ordinances are yet to be adopted, the Downtown Parking Commission has recommended enforcing a two-hour limit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a graduated scale of fines and, for habitual offenders, immobilization (booting).
The enforcement effort has been emphasized not as a revenue source but as a way to encourage use of off-street lots for long-term parking while saving storefront parking for short-term users.
