OXFORD – An Oxford man was killed in a Tuesday morning traffic accident.
Carl Lockehart, 47, died after the 2013 Dodge Charger he was driving collided with the rear of a Freightliner semi-truck and trailer on Highway 6 about 7:20 a.m. near the Lafayette-Pontotoc county line, according to the Mississippi State Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Miller.
Both vehicles were traveling east, and investigators believe the bright morning sun and hilly terrain may have contributed to the accident.
Lockehart’s vehicle caught fire, but passersby were able to pull him from the vehicle before it become fully involved. Lockehart was pronounced dead at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.
The driver of the Freightliner was taken to the Oxford hospital as a precaution.
