OXFORD – Applications for a new year of Oxford Tourism Opportunity Grants are now available online.
The grants will help provide advertising and promotion outside of Oxford and Lafayette County for tourism events between Sept. 1, 2012, and Aug. 31, 2013, and require a dollar-for-dollar match.
Deadline for applications is Sept. 12.
Eligible events must generate overnight stays and restaurant sales in Oxford and ideally will generate year-round value to the town’s visitor appeal as a destination and generate off-peak (summer and winter) travel.
The grant program is funded by a portion of Oxford’s 2 percent food, beverage and lodging tax.
The Oxford Convention and Visitors Bureau will host an informational meeting on the grant program for those interested in applying at noon on Aug. 14 at the Oxford Conference Center. Tourism Director Mary-Kathryn Herrington said new guidelines focus on generating the most stays for the investment of revenues.
“These guidelines … will ensure that the Tourism Council can effectively fund events that will help generate travel to Oxford,” she said.
