OXFORD — Police on horseback will soon make an appearance on the Square in Oxford.
The board of aldermen this past week approved $4,360 to pay for the training of the officers and the horses. Training will be in Mobile, Ala., in February.
Police Chief Mike Martin plans to have four officers on mounted patrol in the downtown area.
Martin says once the training is completed, the horses will be used primarily for major events, but also on other occasions to keep the horses trained.
Martin tells the Oxford Eagle that the officers have been selected, but they have not selected the four horses for training.
