Oxford stolen car leads to kidnapping charges

A woman faces kidnapping and grand larceny charges in Lafayette County after a theft of an occupied 1999 Acura in Oxford during a football weekend.

Candace Malone is in the Lafayette County Detention Center on $50,000 bond, according to Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin.

Malone and another person took the car of an employee at the Varsity Grille restaurant the night the University of Mississippi played Northern Arizona on Nov. 7.

A person was sleeping in the car when it was stolen. That person was left without injuries on County Road 107 on the way to Alabama.

The stolen car was later involved in a high speed case in Marion County Alabama where the it was stopped, according to Oxford officials. Malone was returned to Mississippi to face charges. The male accomplice is still being held in Alabama.
