Oxford to renovate downtown parking lots

OXFORD – Aldermen here voted to amend the Public Works Department’s budget by more than $95,000 for downtown parking lot improvements ranging from new lighting to resealing and restriping.
The Parking Commission “wisely recognized that, as we move forward toward paid parking, that the options for free parking are going to be the surface parking lots,” said City Planner Tim Akers. “We want them to be attractive and safe and well-organized.”
“The Oxford-University Club lot is in particularly bad shape, as is Monroe (Avenue) leading into it,” said Mayor Pat Patterson.
Before her motion to approve the budget amendment, Ward 3 Alderman Janice Antonow emphasized, “We’ve needed to do this a long time.”
