OXFORD – Oxford’s assistant city engineer said Jackson Avenue will be closed on Saturday between Gertrude Ford Boulevard and Depot Street.
“The Sewer Department will be performing work and must close the road for safety of the workers and traveling public,” Reanna Mayoral said.
The short stretch of the east-west thoroughfare is near the pedestrian bridge that crosses Jackson just west of downtown. Motorists are urged to use Gertrude Ford Boulevard to access Depot Street as a detour.
A message board will be installed on Jackson Avenue at Gertrude Ford along with signs and traffic cones to direct traffic. Work is expected to take place between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
In the event of rain Saturday, the work will be performed on Sunday instead.
