TUPELO – Last week, he represented Ward 5 in Tupelo, this week he’s the mayor.
Buddy Palmer was appointed acting mayor of Tupelo while Mayor Jason Shelton attends a National League of Cities conference in Seattle, Wash., with City Council President Nettie Davis. Shelton said he asked his fellow east Tupelo elected official to serve in his absence in case of an emergency. Palmer joked Thursday that he has enjoyed his newfound power, saying that he’s considering a “different direction” for the city in Shelton’s absence.
“I haven’t made any serious policy decisions, but I’m looking at changing a few department heads,” he said with a smile.
Shelton plans to return to the city on Tuesday.
