Pilfered nursing home patients to be repaid

VICKSBURG – A former nursing home administrator who pleaded guilty to taking $100,000 from patients will spend up to 15 years at a state restitution center – working outside the center to repay the patients.

While 38-year-old Lee Ray Martin of Vicksburg is doing that, 45-year-old Angela Palmer will be spending 60 months on probation. Palmer also was ordered to pay $6,000 restitution and $1,000 to Mississippi’s vulnerable adult fund.

Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick sentenced both last week on charges of conspiracy and exploiting a vulnerable person. Martin pleaded guilty to 29 counts of exploitation and Palmer to four counts of that charge.

Martin’s indictment listed 390 instances of taking money from petty cash belonging to residents of Shady Lawn Nursing Home and Vicksburg Convalescent Center.
