Plane crashes, catches fire at Memphis airport

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis International Airport official says four people were injured when a single-engine plane crashed on approach to the airport.

Airport vice president of operations John Greaud says the general aviation plane fell short of the runway just after 4 p.m. (CDT) Sunday and caught fire. Greaud says the fire was put out.

All four people were taken to area hospitals, Greaud said.

Greaud did not have identifications on the injured, nor did he know where the flight originated. Greaud says the crash did not cause delays with other flights at the airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been called in to investigate.
