Plans for new plant approved

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Olin Corp. has taken the first steps to expand its Winchester ammunition facility in Oxford.

The Lafayette County Planning Commission this week approved plans for the facility. The proposal now goes to the county board of supervisors.

In November, Olin announced plans to move its Centerfire ammunition operations from East Alton, Ill., to Oxford and build a 500,000-square foot facility next to its existing Winchester plant in the Lafayette County Industrial Park.

The Oxford Eagle reports that the city of Oxford has agreed to provide the facility with water and sewer.

The project will bring 1,000 ammunition manufacturing jobs to Oxford over the next five years. Work at the site is expected to begin in January.
