TUPELO – A police chase that started in Guntown ended when the suspect drove a truck he allegedly stole into a Saltillo police car early this morning.
Saltillo Police Chief Steve Brooks said his officer is fine but his car is “tore up.”
Nathan Williams was taken into custody by Guntown police after he allegedly drove the truck into a Saltillo police car.
Guntown Police Chief Michael Hall said they received word a Booneville police officer attempted to stop a truck traveling at a high rate of speed but the suspect fled.
When Guntown officers tried to pull over the same truck around 6 a.m., the truck fled through Guntown and into Saltillo.
“We were in the middle of it when he came through Saltillo, running every stop sign in town,” Brooks said. “He ran into one of my patrol cars and that stopped him.”
The suspect is being held in the Lee County Adult Jail.
Hall said there are currently no charges against Williams, he is being held for investigation, but he said he plans to press charges.
Brooks said he will probably push to charge the suspect with assault on a police officer with an automobile.
Brooks said the chase originated in Guntown with the Guntown Police Department. Guntown Police Chief Michael Hall was unavailable for comment but more will be released once he is available.
