VERONA – Police continue to follow leads five days after an apartment owner was shot and killed.
Jeya Suppiah, 46, of Verona, was shot and killed in the office building of the Bailey Apartments on Raymond Avenue on Friday night.
“We don’t have any new information but we’re checking a few leads right now that might help us,” said Verona Police Chief Anthony Anderson.
“All we know is it’s supposed to be a 6-foot-2-inch to 6-foot-3-inch light-skinned black male who weighs about 240 pounds.”
Anthony said they have received some contradictory information but the description of the suspect they are using comes from apartment residents who saw a man fitting the description behind the complex’s office building immediately following the gunshots.
Apartment residents said they heard gunshots between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
The 911 call was made at 5:46 p.m.
In addition to Suppiah, there was a second man who was shot.
The second man survived the gunshot wound and was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center.
Suppiah owned multiple properties in Verona.
