SALTILLO – Saltillo Police Chief Grant Bailey wants primary school parents to know they should expect traffic, limited parking and delays Thursday morning when school begins.

“There are going to be lots of cars and lots of kids in the parking lot on top of the construction,” he said. “No one will be counted tardy the first day so don’t rush.”

Bailey said regardless of whether parents approach Saltillo Primary School from Highway 45 or Highway 145, they should expect to exit onto Highway 145 when leaving the school.

“That helps us free up Highway 45 so we can get people in,” he said. “And we’ll definitely be prepared for overflow and delays onto Highway 45 because it’s probably going to happen.”

Since construction will limit the number of parking spaces, Saltillo police officers will direct parents to park near the softball fields.

“I would also ask everyone try to carpool if they can,” he said. “That will help us a lot.”

He said most of all everyone needs to be patient and cooperate with officers so that everyone can get in and out without any accidents or injuries.
