POLICE FIND MARIJUANA ON ROAD

SALTILLO – Seizing 20 pounds of marijuana can be a cinch when it’s already sacked up and on the side of a road.

Donald Culman of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks can attest to that. He found nearly $50,000 worth of the illegal plants Thursday afternoon bagged up and tossed in a ditch alongside a Saltillo road.

Lee County Sheriff Harold Ray Presley theorize the drugs were purposely placed there and probably would have been picked up later by a drug distributor.

Culman lucked up on the stash around 2 p.m. on County Road 813 near Lake Lamar Bruce. When he opened the garbage bag, Culman found the dried, illegal plants inside in Zip Lock bags.

About that time, Lee County Deputy Joey Putt happened by and found another garbage bag full of marijuana plants while searching the area.

The plants were divided and individually wrapped, with a little more than a pound in each pack, said Maury Schuh, commander of the Lee County Vice Narcotics Task Force.

No one had been arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with the seizure.
