TUPELO – Community support Monday pulled in more than $1,000 for the families of two Tupelo police officers.

Buffalo Wild Wings was packed to help raise money for the family of fallen Tupelo Police Sgt. Kevin “Gale” Stauffer and injured officer Joseph Maher. The funds will help send the Stauffer family on a vacation and Maher on a hunting trip following the tragic shootout that took Stauffer’s life and injured Maher.

“It went amazingly like all the other fundraisers we’ve seen so far,” said Sgt. Michael Russell of the Tupelo Police Athletic League. “The community came out to support the officers, and it gave us such a huge sense of place for our department. We have felt an overwhelming sense of love and support in Tupelo.”

At the end of the night, Buffalo Wild Wings donated about $750 of its proceeds from Monday night food sales, and the raffle for a Homestretch couch brought in $550.

Representatives from the Tupelo police and fire departments competed in physical and mental games during the night as entertainment for supporters.

The additional $1,300 put the fundraising total just over $7,000.

Russell said the trips will give Maher and the Stauffer family an opportunity to get out of Tupelo and relax.
