ITAWAMBA COUNTY – Officials on Sunday were searching for a man who stole a wrecker in Calhoun City and led police on an early morning high-speed chase.
Natchez Trace officials attempted to stop the vehicle at about 1 a.m., and the driver failed to stop, said Ray Hall with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. MHP and other agencies joined the Natchez Trace officers in the chase.
The driver lost control of the wrecker at 2:15 a.m. on Highway 78 near the Alabama line. The driver ran from the scene on foot, Hall said. K9 units were used to search for the man, but the dogs lost his scent after tracking him into the woods.
No one was injured in the chase, Hall said.
