Police search for second armed robbery, burglary suspect

TUPELO – Police have made an arrest in connection with a May 2 armed robbery but are still looking for at least one more person.
Police have charged Charles A. Burnes, 21, of 3366 Brooks St. with one count of armed robbery and multiple counts of burglary. An arrest warrant has been issued for armed robbery and burglary for Carlos Ellis, 27, of Tupelo.
Burnes and Ellis are accused of robbing the BP store on Cliff Gookin Boulevard and of burglarizing several residences in the Haven Acres community. Tupelo Police Lt. Chuck Bunn said after investigating burglaries in Haven Acres on Thursday, information was given to police that Burnes may have been involved.
“The community gave us information on the suspects, so we followed up on them and made an arrest,” said Bunn. “We have been working very hard to get these crimes solved.”
During the robbery at BP on May 2, two men allegedly robbed the clerk at gunpoint after she exited the store after closing. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money during the robbery. The clerk was not injured.
