Tupelo Police take person into custody after robbery report

UPDATE 4:53 – Dispatchers canceled the search over the police scanner around 4:50 p.m. after an officer reported taking a suspect into custody in the Highland Circle area.


TUPELO – Police are investigating a strong armed robbery this afternoon.

Capt. Rusty Haynes said they are looking for a young black male between the age of 17 and 23.

Haynes said the man went to pay for an item at the convenience store on the corner of North Gloster and West Jackson streets. When the cashier opened the register, Haynes said the suspect pushed her back and grabbed about $100 out of the register.

He fled on foot southwest on Park Street.
