PONTOTOC – Wesley Rivera had quite a surprise about two Sundays ago.
Make-A-Wish volunteers greeted Wesley on Aug. 21 after church and told him his wish for a shopping spree at Walmart came true.
He and his family boarded a “celebrity coach” bus stocked with his favorite drinks and snacks. The bus then took him to New China Buffet in Tupelo for lunch.
Wesley was driven to Walmart where he was greeted by a group of employees to let his red-carpet shopping experience begin. An announcement was made declaring it “Wesley Day” in the store, and a sales associate accompanied Wesley to assist with shopping.
After he had finished shopping, Wesley went to a party room decorated with balloons where he celebrated his wish experience with cake, ice cream and drinks. Before his special day ended, Wesley and his brother, Anthony, got a ride on a Walmart 18-wheeler delivery truck.
Wesley is the son of Juan and Maria Rivera of Pontotoc.
