PONTOTOC – The city of Pontotoc officially has a Level 6 fire rating.
Now property owners will have a lower insurance costs.
Fire Chief Lance Martin said the fire department has been working on improvements since 2005 to get the new rating.
The department had to prove that they had building and fire code enforcements in place, do bi-annual checks of the fire hydrants, test hoses on a regular basis and pre-plan for fires. Plus, there is additional training for full-time firemen at the state level.
An arial truck addition and the new fire station on the north end of town also helped obtain the rating.
