Pontotoc Police Chief Larry Poole reported that five persons were arrested recently in four separate incidents.
Poole said that Brandie M. Tutor, 29, of Randolph, has been arrested and charged with arson, burglary of an auto and two counts of felony malicious mischief.
Poole said that Tutor is charged in connection with allegedly setting fire to a barn on Old Airport Road on March 10, cutting the tires and throwing a concrete block through a house window on March 11 and breaking into a pickup truck on March 13.
On Friday, Tutor was still in jail on $40,000 bond, Poole said.
Poole said that James Bobby Collums, 26, of Bland Lane, Randolph, has also been charged with arson in connection with the barn fire, which destroyed the contents of the building.
“The charges against Collums stem from driving Tutor to the barn and then picking her up and driving away knowing that the barn was on fire,” Poole alleged.
Collums was released on $5,000 bond, Poole said.
In a second incident, Poole said that Kayla Leanne Russell, 23, of Swords Lane, Pontotoc, was arrested March 15 and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
“This started with a traffic stop when someone reported a small child riding in a car and not in a child restraint seat,” Poole said.
“Upon getting permission to search the vehicle, marijuana was found in her purse, along with a large amount of cash,” Poole alleged.
Russell was released on $10,000 bond, he said.
In reporting a third arrest, Poole said that Cesar Sanchez, 40, of Country Village Apartments, Pontotoc, has been arrested and charged with two counts of molesting a child under 10 years old.
“The charges were filed after the mothers of the two children brought the complaint to the police department,” Poole reported.
Poole said Sanchez has been released from jail on a $500,000 bond.
In reporting another arrest, Poole said that Alexander Franklin, 19, of Highway 6 East, Pontotoc, has been arrested and charged with enticement of a child to meet for sexual purposes.
“The charges were filed after the mother of the 14-year-old girl saw text messages on the daughter’s cell phone and filed a complaint with the police department,” Poole said.
Poole said Franklin is being held in the Pontotoc County Jail on $100,000 bond.
