The Pontotoc County School Board heard Gary Bailey of Bailey Architecture Education report on the progress of the construction bidding process for a new school building at North Pontotoc Attendance Center at the September 20 meeting in the county schools administration building boardroom.
Bailey reiterated that an earlier bid announcement resulted in all bids exceeding the proposed $3 million budget for the project. Re-designed plans and specifications were prepared in expectation of the new bids being closer to budget guidelines. The bids on the new plans will be opened October 7.
Pontotoc County Schools Superintendent Kenny Roye commended North Pontotoc High School Principal Roger Smith on the school’s Star rating.
“NPHS was ranked second in the state in the listing of STtarhigh schools,” Roye stated. “South Pontotoc High School almost met all criteria for the Star rating, garnering a 199.2 score, when 200 was needed for the special designation,” Roye added.
School Board Superintendent Rick Spencer said, “We have two mighty fine high school principals. [The schools’ performance on state testing] is an indication of their commitment to our schools.”
Roye told the board members about the district’s adjustments in staffing, scheduling of more tutorials for students needing assistance, and practice testing throughout the school year to ensure that all students are learning to their best abilities. The state scoring requires that all students show growth in learning every year.
