Pontotoc High School tennis report

The Pontotoc High tennis team is still winning.

On Thursday of last week, the visiting Troopers of Mooreville fell to the Warriors of PHS, 5-2.

With visiting Region 1-4A competition just around the corner (Tishomingo County) on March 31, Pontotoc head coach Kevin Morrow was pleased with his charges effort last week.

“The win over Mooreville was a good win,” he said.”We’re looking forward to hopefully getting Frankie Turner back in the lineup as she gets over an old injury.”

After losses in both the boys and girls singles matches, the Warriors earned victories in the next five events.

Pontotoc’s Cameron Timmons and Braden Timmons, in the No. 1 boys doubles, defeated Mooreville’s Kelton Kingsley and Zach Shumpert in three sets, 6-2, 7-6, 7-1.

In boys No. 2 doubles, PHS’ Jacob Hatcher and Deaton McAuley defeated Mooreville’s Robert Jones and Dylan Lewis, 6-0, 6-1.

Pontotoc’s Haylee Walker and Anna Chrestman, defeated Mooreville’s Savannah Webb and Kacey Byrd, 7-5, 6-2, in the girls No.1 doubles match.

In girls No. 2 doubles, PHS’ Ivy Robbins and Kristen Pennington defeated Mooreville’s Morgan Sharp and Shelby Miller in three sets, 7-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Pontotoc’s Jacob Ferguson and Katherine Downing, in mixed doubles action, defeated Mooreville’s Jay West and Hannah Carr, 6-1, 6-0.

Mooreville’s Marty Kelly defeated PHS’ Ryan Henry, 6-4, 7-6, in the boys singles match, while the Trooper’s Megan Rowland, in girls singles action, defeated Pontotoc’s Shannon Montgomery, in a close one, 6-4, 6-4.
