PONTOTOC – After more than three years, the Pontotoc Lake is set to reopen for fishing Saturday.
Drained through the Chiwapa Water Management District program to work on the dam three years ago, the lake had to be completely restocked and the fish had to have time to grow before fishing could resume.
Celebrations are on tap for the entire day to welcome the public to the 80-acre lake stocked with bass, bream and catfish.
The gate will open at 7:20 a.m. Saturday to allow for bank and pier fishing through noon. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon at the boat ramp and shortly thereafter boats can be launched. The first 100 people to fish will get a free cane pole and free bait while it lasts.
