Pontotoc Police Chief Larry Poole said he issued letters last week to all business owners on Main Street concerning parking issues.
“I have received complaints from various store owners that there were vehicles parking on Main Street all day,” Poole said.
The chief said that the city has a two-hour parking limit ordinance in place for all parking spaces on Main Street.
“All the parking spaces on Main Street are designated for customer parking,” he said.
Business owners who are looking for places to park are welcome to use the spaces on the side streets away from Main Street.
“The parking lot behind Pontotoc Electric Power Association is a public parking area as well as the lot beside Crausby’s Body Shop.”
Poole cited additional public parking west of Main Street on the old Sunflower parking lot.
“We’ve had to watch closely and enforce it because we have found that some are parking all day and all night on Main Street.”
Poole said his officers would continue to monitor the situation and issue citations where necessary to enforce the two-hour parking limit.
“We just wanted to give a friendly reminder to, not only business owners, but anyone who thinks they can leave their car downtown all day and it not have a ticket on the windshield.”
