Pontotoc Police Chief Larry Poole reported that two Pontotoc men and a 17-year-old female were arrested New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) and charged in connection with a long string of alleged car burglaries which occurred recently.
Poole said that Alexander Franklin, 19, of Grove Apartments, Pontotoc, and Deonte Dilworth, 18, of Jolan Circle, Pontotoc, have been arrested and charged with 17 counts of burglary of an automobile.
“We also arrested a 17-year-old female and her charges will be presented to Pontotoc Youth Court,” Poole said.
Dilworth was released from jail on $50,000 bond, while Franklin remained in jail last Thursday in lieu of $50,000 bond, Poole reported.
Poole said most of the automobiles were burglarized on or around the weekend of December 14.
All of the vehicles were unlocked and setting in the owner’s driveway or carport.
“Most of the stolen items have been recovered and will be recovered to the rightful owners,” Poole said.
Items stolen included money, GPS, cell phones, computers and a pistol.
Streets where the car burglaries occurred included Waters Street, Ridgewood Drive, Oakview Cove, West Reynolds Street, Fall Drive and Dogwood Drive, Poole said.
Poole urged residents to never leave valuables in their car.
“Don’t leave anything in your car, even if you lock the vehicle,” Poole cautioned.
“Thieves are looking for anything they can grab in a matter of seconds and be gone.”
