Power outages were reported in areas in North Lee County, like Mall at Barnes Crossing, Sunday night.
Reports of power being out started around 6:30 p.m. Reports of power returning to parts of the county started around 8 p.m.
Tombigbee EPA operations manager David Riley told WTVA.com power has been fully restored after bypassing the Barnes Crossing substation. Riley told WTVA the regulator in the substation failed and exploded, and the combination of events led to the power outage.
It is not clear what caused the regulator to fail and explode. It will be replaced Monday and Tombigbee will investigate.
Several fire alarms went off around businesses at the Mall during the outage, but no fires were reported.
