Power coming back in South Mississippi

By The Associated Press

JACKSON — The power is back on for thousands of Mississippi electric customers who lost service due to snow and ice.

Close to 25,000 customers lost electricity because of the unsually heavy snow that hit Mississippi on Friday.

More than 2,900 customers of Entergy Mississippi were still without power late Saturday morning.

A spokesman for The Electric Power Association of Mississippi said that cooperative had fewer than 500 outages as of Saturday morning.

Officials expected power to be restored to almost everyone by evening. Temperatures were climbing above freezing Saturday, making repairs easier and lessening the chances of more damage from snow and ice.
