Pre-K model releases 1st year results in Miss.

JACKSON — First-year results of a privately funded early childhood education program show gains in the quality of care for infants and toddlers at some day care centers in Mississippi.

Officials with Mississippi Building Blocks released the report Wednesday at the Capitol.

The state’s business community raised about $10 million for Building Blocks. The program continues another three years, supplying educational and business resources to childcare centers.

University of Missouri researchers found improvement in the social-emotional skills of children in the centers that received assistance.

Officials say the program could provide a road map if lawmakers eventually establish a state-funded pre-kindergarten program.
