BOONEVILLE – A Prentiss County couple arrested today in connection with a Medicaid fraud investigation have been released from Prentiss County jail on $20,000 bond each.

Dirley Jones, 63, and Rita Jones, 62, both of Booneville, turned themselves in at the sheriff’s office today after being indicted by a Prentiss County grand jury. They were charged with false pretense and embezzlement after an investigation by state Attorney General Jim Hood.

The charges allege that the Joneses, who own and operate Scott Dell Cottage Assisted Living in Booneville, continued to bill 19 residents directly for their charges while also receiving payment from Medicaid.

The indictment says the couple collected about $133,000 from Medicaid and embezzled more than $4,200 from a resident whose Social Security check they deposited in their own account.

The case remains under investigation. If convicted, the charges carry a maximum penalty of 40 years in jail and $55,000 in fines.
