Prentiss County man facing charges in Lee County shooting

A Prentiss County man is facing charges in connection with a shooting last Friday in Lee County.

Michael Joe Martin, 45, is facing charges of aggravated assault (use of a deadly weapon), shooting into a occupied dwelling (two counts) and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. The suspect has a prior conviction for aggravate assault with a weapon.

Authorities were dispatched to Highway 370 where they found a white female had been shot with a high powered rifle. The victim was then transported by Air Ambulance to the North Mississippi Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.

According to a press release: “Shortly after midnight on September 28, 2012 Lee County and Prentiss County deputies found the suspect, Michael Joe Martin, at a residence in Prentiss County. Mr. Martin was taken into custody and transported to Lee County Sheriff Department. The vehicle and the suspected weapon used during the incident were also found at the residence where Mr. Martin was arrested.”

Martin’s bond was set at $1 million Monday.
