BOONEVILLE – The Wednesday death of a Prentiss County female jail inmate is being investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation after a suspected suicide attempt last week.
Robbie Lewis, 25, was found hanging in a jail cell about 6 p.m. Feb. 18, according to reports from Sheriff Randy Tolar.
Jailers who found her during shift change said a bed sheet had been used. After taking her down, they performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.
Lewis was taken to Baptist Hospital in Booneville, then later moved to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
She had been listed in critical condition but was taken off life support earlier this week, and authorities said she died Wednesday morning.
An autopsy is being performed by the state medical examiner in Jackson, and results are expected today.
Lewis was arrested for misdemeanor fines in the city of Booneville, and also had an outstanding warrant from another county, the sheriff said.
