n NMMC Heart Patient Assistance Fund ($20,000) – Funding will provide assistance with medications, educational materials, transportation and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation to patients who qualify. The fund is administered through the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi.
n NMMC Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund ($16,000) – Funding will provide assistance with medications, transportation and nutritional supplements to patients who qualify. The fund is administered through the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi.
n Antone Tannehill Good Samaritan Free Clinic ($15,700) – Funding will provide treatment, education and screenings for the “working uninsured” in Lee County.
n NMMC Diabetes Patient Assistance Fund ($10,200) – Funding will provide diabetic supplies and education to patients who qualify. The fund is administered through the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi.
n Sisters Network, Tupelo Chapter ($2,750) – Funding will assist with prevention and diagnosis of breast cancer among medically under-served black women. The funding will cover baseline screenings, diagnostic mammograms and ultrasound examinations.
n Barbershop Talk ($2,500) – Funding will assist a program that targets barbers to educate the black community about prostrate screenings. The program will be expanded to include beauticians and community leaders to encourage screenings for prostate, colon and breast cancer.
n NMMC Community Family Fitness Park Project ($2,500) – Funding will help the NMMC Community Health Department provide a comprehensive outdoor fitness park for area residents. The park will include a handicapped-accessible playground near the NMMC Wellness Center in Tupelo.
n Weston Reed Cardiovascular Conference ($1,700) – Funding will provide free CPR and automated external defibrillator training during the conference. In addition to CPR and AED training, the event provides free heart health screenings and funds AEDs for public venues.
n HealthWorks! North Mississippi ($1,600) – Funding will provide fitness equipment to be used with schoolchildren in programs designed to decreased risk for heart disease, cancer and diabetes through improved health habits.
n Spirit of Women ($1,000) – Funding will assist with Day of Dance, an event to educate women on the risk factors that contribute to heart disease and other leading health issues. The educational programs will be administered through the NMMC Spirit of Women program.
n Camp Breathe Ezzzze ($1,000) – Funding will assist with an asthma camp for children age 6-12 at Tishomingo State Park. Sponsored by NMMC, the camp educates children about managing asthma, as well as the importance of regular exercise and healthy habits to prevent future cardiopulmonary disease.
n Camp Bluebird Scholarships ($1,000) – Funding will provide scholarships to Camp Bluebird, an adult cancer camp held each April and September. The camp is co-sponsored by North Mississippi Medical Center and ATamp&T Pioneers at Tombigbee State Park.
