Law enforcement agencies investigate possible telemarketing scheme
Federal, state and local officials were investigating a Tupelo business they said may be operating a fraudulent telemarketing scheme.
Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, U.S. postal inspectors, a Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics officer, and detectives with the Tupelo Police Department combed stacks of papers Tuesday and questioned the operators at Mid South Advertising, 2609-A Traceland Drive.
The officers were looking into possible fraudulent advertising through the mail and other advertising that was sold and solicited inside and outside of Mississippi.
Officials executed a search warrant about 10 a.m. and stayed much of the day going over documents. Agents and officers standing in front of the business would not comment.
No arrests were made Tuesday, but some are possible, said Hal Neilson, public information officer for the FBI in Jackson.
More information is expected to be released later, Neilson said.
